Dr Fiona Wilkes  – Ph.D Research

Ph.D  Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. Interdisciplinary Art – Anthropology practice-based and theoretical (100,000 word thesis) on Contemporary Guyanese Amerindian Art: Imagery, Identity, and Memory.  Supervisors – Prof. Norman Bryson & Prof. Susanne Küchler (Anthropology, UCL).  Examiners – Susan Hiller (Artist & Baltic Chair, Contemporary Art, Newcastle Univ.) and Prof. Chris Pinney (Anthropology, UCL).

Dr Fiona Wilkes PhD in Fine Art and interdisciplinary Art Anthropology included field-research in Guyana examining the interrelation of the role of the Bitter Cassava Plant (Manihot Esculenta) Amerindian memory and cultural economies. Fiona has a long-term research interests in projects examining the relation between plants, memory and material translations.
